Tamara Karsavina

In literature class today my teacher claimed how in all probability Tamara Karsavina is the dancer mentioned in Akhmatova's «Все мы дражники здесь, блудницы...» (1913), describing the scene of actors and poets around "The Stray Dog Café".

А та, что сейчас танцует,
Непременно будет в аду.

She was born in 1885 and was one of the most celebrated dancers in Sergei Diaghilev's Ballet russe, as well as affiliated with the Mariinsky theatre. She danced the lead roles in many of the premieres of Stravinsky's famous expressionist ballets in the 1910s, such as The Firebird and Petrushka. Following the revolution she emigrated and settled overseas, in England, where she helped found the Royal Academy of Dance.
